Illinois Basements Flood — Is Your Pump Ready?
The northwest Chicago suburbs see significant rainfall and spring snowmelt that puts real pressure on residential sump systems. Homes in Des Plaines, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, and surrounding communities often sit on soil that does not drain quickly — making a functioning sump pump not optional, but essential.
A sump pump that is running continuously, cycling too fast, making grinding or rattling noises, or is 7–10+ years old is telling you it is close to failure. When it fails during a storm — which is when it matters most — basement water damage can reach thousands of dollars. Aqua Tech provides same-day sump pump repair, replacement, and new installation throughout the northwest suburbs. We also install battery backup systems that protect your basement even when the power goes out.
Battery Backup System Installation
Power outages and heavy storms happen at the same time — exactly when your sump pump needs to run most. A battery backup pump activates automatically when primary power is cut, providing continuous protection when you need it most.

Signs Your Sump Pump Needs Attention
Sump pumps rarely fail without warning. These are the signs to watch for — catching them early prevents a flooded basement.
Running Constantly or Short-Cycling
A pump that runs all the time or turns on and off repeatedly may have a stuck float switch, a failed check valve causing backflow, or an undersized pump that cannot keep up with water volume. Have it inspected before it burns out.
Unusual Grinding or Rattling Noise
Strange sounds from a sump pump typically indicate a worn or broken impeller, debris caught in the pump, or bearing failure. These mechanical problems worsen quickly and often precede complete pump failure.
Pump is 7–10+ Years Old
Most residential sump pumps have a functional lifespan of 7–10 years under normal use conditions. A pump approaching or past this age — especially heading into spring storm season — deserves proactive evaluation.
Pump Doesn't Turn On
If water is accumulating in the pit but the pump is not activating, the float switch may be stuck, the pump may have failed, or there may be an electrical issue. Do not wait to find out during a storm.
Water in Pit but Not Pumping
A pump that runs but is not moving water effectively may have a clogged intake screen, a failed impeller, or a check valve issue preventing proper discharge. Running with no output will burn out the motor.
Visible Rust or Corrosion
Rust on the pump body or discharge pipe indicates moisture exposure and deterioration. Corrosion can compromise electrical connections and mechanical components — a corroded pump should be inspected and likely replaced.
